Comic Artists and Where to Meet Them

Adam Kubert

Comic Artist, Penciller

Adam Kubert draws with thick, expressive line weight and a real feel for impact. His Wolverine and Hulk pages are bruising, and he has moved between Marvel and DC's biggest books for thirty years.

Adi Granov

Comic Artist, Concept Artist, Cover Artist

Granov's Iron Man looks machined rather than drawn, with hard reflections and precisely engineered surfaces. Iron Man: Extremis set a visual template that carried through to the films, where he worked on concept design.

Andy Kubert

Comic Artist, Letterer, Penciller

Andy Kubert stages superhero stories like film, with wide establishing shots, clean sightlines and a steady build to the hit. He drew X-Men through the nineties, then Wolverine: Origin, Marvel 1602, Batman and Son and Flashpoint.

Next: L.A. Comic Con, Oct 30 to Nov 1, 2026

Bryan Hitch

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Hitch draws superheroes at movie scale, with wide panels, real architecture and crowds that feel populated. The Authority and The Ultimates made widescreen a working term among comics artists.

Daniel Warren Johnson

Cartoonist, Comic Artist, Writer

Johnson draws as though the page itself is under stress, with hand-lettered sound effects, torn panel borders and bodies thrown around at real cost. Murder Falcon and Do a Powerbomb! turn that energy into something surprisingly moving.

Darick Robertson

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Robertson draws cities that feel filthy and lived-in, and faces that look like people you would actually meet. Transmetropolitan and The Boys both depend on that grounding to make their satire land.

David Finch

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Finch renders in dense hatching and deep shadow, giving his heroes bulk and menace. He drew New Avengers and Moon Knight at Marvel before moving to DC for Batman: The Dark Knight and Wonder Woman.

Eduardo Risso

Comic Artist, Cover Artist

Risso works in extreme light and shadow, cutting figures down to silhouette and letting black carry the story. 100 Bullets is a long clinic in noir page construction.

Esad Ribic

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Painter

Ribic paints rather than inks, and his Marvel work carries the scale of myth, with figures set against enormous skies and colour doing the emotional work. Thor: God of Thunder and Secret Wars show it clearest.

Fabio Moon

Cartoonist, Comic Artist, Graphic Novelist

Moon's drawing is loose and emotionally direct, built for stories about ordinary life. Daytripper and Two Brothers, both made with his twin brother Gabriel Ba, are his best-known work.

Fiona Staples

Character Designer, Comic Artist, Cover Artist

Staples designs strange creatures and tender human moments with equal ease, working digitally in soft colour and confident shape. Saga's entire visual world is hers, and it became one of the defining creator-owned books of its era.

Frank Quitely

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Quitely draws people who look like they have weight and skin, slightly soft, slightly awkward and entirely alive. All-Star Superman and WE3 are masterclasses in panel design, and his character acting is as subtle as anything in the medium.

Gabriel Ba

Cartoonist, Comic Artist, Cover Artist

Ba draws in bold graphic shapes with a strong sense of design, moving easily from The Umbrella Academy's oddness to the quiet of Daytripper.

Gary Frank

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Frank's characters act with their faces, small shifts of expression that carry a scene on their own. It grounds even the largest stories, from Superman: Secret Origin and Batman: Earth One to Doomsday Clock.

Greg Capullo

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Capullo builds bodies like a sculptor and faces that carry real dread. A long run on Spawn led into his Batman work with Scott Snyder, from Court of Owls through Dark Nights: Metal, which set how Gotham looked for a decade.

Humberto Ramos

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Ramos stretches anatomy the way animation does: long limbs, enormous expressions, motion pushed past what a body could actually do. It suits Spider-Man exactly, which is where he has spent much of the last two decades.

Ivan Reis

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Reis draws classical, clean-lined heroes and handles enormous casts without losing anyone in the crowd. Green Lantern, Blackest Night and Aquaman are where DC has leaned on him hardest.

J. Scott Campbell

Character Designer, Comic Artist, Cover Artist

Campbell draws with an animator's sense of pose and expression, all clean curves and confident line. Gen 13 and Danger Girl made his name in the nineties, and his variant covers have since become some of the most collected on the stands.

Jorge Jimenez

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Jimenez brings bright, elastic energy to Gotham, with expressive faces, sharp costume design and fights that genuinely move. His Batman is among the most distinctive DC has published in recent years.

Lee Bermejo

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Painter

Bermejo renders skin, fabric and grime in obsessive detail, producing versions of these characters that look uncomfortably real. Joker and Batman: Noel are the clearest examples.

Marco Checchetto

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Checchetto builds real, lived-in environments and stages action inside them like a director. His Daredevil work has turned Hell's Kitchen into a specific place rather than a backdrop.

Mark Bagley

Comic Artist, Penciller

Bagley is one of the most dependable storytellers in the business: clean staging, legible action, month after month without slipping. He drew Amazing Spider-Man for years, then more than a hundred issues of Ultimate Spider-Man.

Olivier Coipel

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Coipel gets an enormous amount out of faces and posture, then opens up for spectacle when a story needs it. House of M, Thor and Siege all lean on that mix of close acting and large-scale action.

Pepe Larraz

Comic Artist, Cover Artist, Penciller

Larraz combines polished figure work with action choreography that stays readable no matter how many characters are on the page. House of X made him one of Marvel's go-to artists for line-wide events.
